Dr. Tom Forbes

I am a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist and a Clinician Scientist Fellow at the Royal Children’s Hospital and Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. I completed a PhD Thesis in 2020 examining the capabilities and limitations of mini-kidney organoids cultured from patient stem cells for the functional genomic study of inherited kidney diseases. I currently oversee a variety of research projects within the Melbourne Children’s Campus, including clinical and functional genomic research, clinical trials and data-led, quality improvement research into neonatal nephrology. I sit on the steering committee for the KidGen Australia Renal Genetics Consortium and I am co-lead of the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative Australia and New Zealand Chapter (launched in July 2024). In my spare time I enjoy fitness, field hockey and learning new songs and chords on my left handed guitar.
