Prof. Robert Ekart

Prof. Robert Ekart, MD, PhD, FERA, is a full professor of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Maribor. He has been working at the University Medical Centre Maribor, Slovenia, since 1994. He has been an internist since 2001 and a nephrologist since 2020. He is the Head of the Dialysis Department and since 2025 the Professional Head of the Clinic for Internal Medicine in UKC Maribor. He is a clinician, specialist in internal medicine, nephrology and dialysis, main mentor in the training of medical students, young doctors and residents in internal medicine and nephrology. He is the head of international projects in the Dialysis department UKC Maribor: LUST, LUST2, SUB LUST, PROG-IMT and PROOF-ATHERO, ABPM feasibility study, AKI-EPI 2 study. According to Sicris, he is one of the top 10 researchers in Slovenia in the field of cardiovascular medicine. He is author/co-author of 90 original scientific articles, according to Google Scholar his h-index is 32, the number of all citations is 4000. He is author/co-author of 140 articles in Pubmed. From 2017 to 2023 he was a board member of the ERA working group EURECA-m (EUropean REnal and CArdiovascular Medicine). As a main supervisor, his students have received numerous awards: 2 Perlach Awards from the University of Maribor for the best student research paper, 8 dean’s awards (gold, silver and bronze) at the Faculty of Medicine UM. He is also a reviewer for more than 100 international medical journals.
