Prof. Fiona Mackie

An accomplished clinical leader and consultant with a wealth of expertise driving governance, policy development and organisational change, I have worked held a critical role in changing policy in organ donation in Australia, particularly for paediatric patients experiencing serious kidney disease. I am passionate about driving cross-functional collaboration to find the most appropriate pathway forward to complex and challenging health and clinical policy issues, underpinned by my significant expertise as a highly-regarded clinical professional. A clear and confident communicator, I engage effectively with a variety of audiences, ranging from community members and patients to experienced clinical professionals and government leaders. I am also able to negotiate with stakeholders, persuading them towards a desired outcome or position. My exceptional interpersonal skills allow me to be a true people connector, and I pride myself on my ability to establish, maintain and grow productive professional networks in a local and global context. As a leader, I build high-performing teams of staff who are motivated and empowered to own their work and their performance. I lead from the front and demonstrate the skills, capabilities, and behaviours I expect of my staff to inspire them to do the same, creating a high-performance culture. Some of my career highlights include: 1.Provided expert policy and clinical advice on national guidelines for transplantation and organ donation. 2.Championed policy change in Ho Chi Minh City to allow children to receive deceased donor kidneys as part of the Transplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand delegation to Vietnam. This required considerable negotiation, relationship-building and education to overcome cultural concerns and societal stigmas. 3. Appointed as Board Member and Hon. Secretary of the Transplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand, identifying the need for change in the legal structure of the organisation for its operations and was instrumental in assisting with the required governance restructure. This was undertaken with the full support of the Board and required an extensive communication and negotiation strategy to deliver. Currently, I am looking to transition into a non-executive directorship or advisory role, so if you’d like to know more about me or what I bring to my work, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
