Prof. Jeremy Hughes

I am a clinician, teacher, administrator and researcher with a strong understanding of the university environment and higher education sector for both students and staff. As Director of Year 3 of the Edinburgh MBChB programme and lead for the BMedSci in Health Sciences, I am experienced in providing hands-on student teaching and pastoral support as well as leading the development of new degree programmes. As Director of Education at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh I worked to increase the delivery of digital education across the globe. I have a strong personal research pedigree (h-index 46, i10-index 82, 10,000+ citations) but also am highly experienced at assessing the quality of research at both the personal and institutional level. I am Chair of Kidney Research UK that is the largest national kidney research charity in the UK. I understand the vital role of high quality business and financial governance within major organisations as well as the need for strategic focus to deliver real impact for beneficiaries. I am passionate about unlocking the abilities and talents of young people throughout their educational journey and widening access to Higher Education for those who need it most.
