Dr. Maria Pippias

My research focuses on the epidemiology of end-stage kidney disease and the access to treatment in this population. During my ERA funded PhD titled The Golden Years: Kidney Transplantation in the 21st Century I used registry data to describe the epidemiology, trends and outcomes of kidney transplantation across Europe with a focus on the older adult as both the recipient and donor. This research was carried out at the ERA Registry, the European dialysis and transplant registry based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. My current research aims to use registry data to evaluate practice patterns and outcomes in the UK failing transplant population. I am the SharE-RR Fellow, an International Society of Nephrology advisory group that aims to develop resources that kidney health advocates can use to assist the establishment or development of a renal registry. I am one of the International Society of Nephrology Emerging Leader 2022 cohort.
