Dr. Kelly Haughton
Certified physician, specialized in nephrology and internal medicine. At the age of 8 years old I decided I wanted to be a medical doctor and since then I’ve working towards that goal. During my medical training in Internal Medicine at Complejo Hospitalario Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid in Panama, I discovered my passion: Nephrology, the structure and function of the kidneys, the prevention, diagnose and treatment of renal diseases. My training in nephrology initiated in Panama and culminated with my observational fellowship at Minnesota University. I recently open Kidney Doctor Panama, my private practice, with what I aspire to transmit empathy to my patients and accompany them through their process of battling renal deseases. My mission is to assure my patients that the best medical decisions will be taken in their benefit and well being; inspire those who are struggling by transmitting my values (energy, discipline and self determination). My biggest award is to see how the quality of life of my patients improve, once a diagnose is given an a proper treatment plan is proposed and implemented, and without disregarding that prevention is the first line of defense against many illnesses that may affect our kidneys. I use my communication skills to promote and advocate for the prevention of renal deseases by means of having good habits and a healthy life style, which I practice myself. I address the medical and non-medical community in Panama, Central America and the Caribbean to educate them and share important information in relation to renal diseases, how to prevent them, good habits, etc. I’ve participated in talks, conferences, medical podcasts, educational projects such as my Quality Eating Talks, etc. Areas of expertise: chronic kidney disease, acute renal disease, arterial hypertension, diabetic nephropathy, lupus nephritis, glomerular diseases, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, urinary infections, cystic renal diseases, kidney stones, donor and recipient of renal transplant evaluation, acute rejection in kidney transplant recipients, renal transplant, renal biopsy, microscopic hematuria, other.
