Dr. Rommel Ravanan

I’m a Consultant Nephrologist with sub-specialty interest in transplantation. I have significant healthcare leadership experience, including project management aimed at design, development and implementation of new services and/or facilitating safer clinical systems/patient pathways. The interest in healthcare management has led me through positions such as Clinical governance lead for renal directorate (2010-2014), Clinical Director for renal & transplant directorate (2014 -2017) and Divisional Clinical Director for Core Clinical Services (2017 – present). My research interests include renal & transplant epidemiology and high immunological risk (ABOi, HLAi) transplantation. From 10th April 2017, I have taken on a wider medical management position with North Bristol NHS Trust as the Divisional Clinical Director for the newly created Core Clinical services division. The division encompasses 6 departments including pharmacy, pathology (cellular & blood sciences), therapies (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and dietetics), radiology, out-patients and clinical equipment services – as Divisional CD I’m responsible for services provided by ~1300 WTE employees and revenue budget >£90 million. The division’s departments have touch points with almost all ambulatory and in-patients cared for by the trust as well as provide a range of services (diagnostic, therapies and equipment services) to patients in the local community and some specialist services (ex:genetics, interventional radiology) on a supra-regional foot print. Patient pathway efficiency and safety, support and development of team members and long term strategy for service provision are key areas of focus as I lead an expert and dedicated team from all six departments in the division.
