Prof. Nick Webb

Academic Paediatric Nephrologist (H-index >50) with a mission of improving outcomes for adults and children with rare complement-mediated glomerular diseases. VP and Head of Clinical Strategy Immunology for Sobi, based in Basel, Switzerland, where efforts are focused on obtaining regulatory approval for pegcetacoplan in C3 glomerulopathy and immune-complex MPGN. Transitioned from clinical academia to industry in August 2018. I initially worked at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research on a range of compounds in early development. This included iptacopan, a potent small molecule oral complement alternative pathway Factor B inhibitor, which achieved proof of concept and I transitioned with the compound to late phase development. Medical lead for global Ph3 studies in C3 glomerulopathy, immune-complex membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis as well as paediatric studies across all renal indications. The APPEAR Ph3 study in C3G met its primary endpoint and I led submission meetings with FDA and EMA. In November 2024 I moved to Sobi to continue work in this area of unmet need, focusing on the approval of pegcetacoplan in complement-mediated glomerular disease.Previously Professor of Paediatric Nephrology at the University of Manchester and Consultant Nephrologist at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, UK, one of the UK’s largest departments providing comprehensive nephrology and transplantation services for children. Medical Director of the NIHR Manchester Clinical Research Facility (GBP13m funding), with responsibility for the oversight and delivery of a portfolio of over 100 predominantly early phase academic and industry-sponsored clinical trials in both adults and children across a wide range of medical and surgical specialty areas. I retain honorary contracts at both the University of Manchester and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and maintain clinical contact and full GMC registration (3137475).Extensive links with the adult and paediatric nephrology communities throughout Europe, the US and Australasia.Work-life balance is important. Free time spent skiing and hiking in the Alps and UK Lake District. Still trying to run that sub-3h marathon, though sadly getting progressively slower!
