Dr. Joaquim Calado

After obtaining my Medical Degree and having subsequently completed a nephrology fellowship, I acquired expertise in molecular genetics and a PhD in Human Molecular Genetics from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. My major areas of interest in clinical nephrology are inherited renal phenotypes, focusing on cystic kidney diseases (including Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease), atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome and disorders of the renal tubule epithelia. Translational research concerns SGLT2 mediated glucose transport, including the human molecular genetics of Familial Renal Glucosuria and investigations on the interaction of SGLT2 with its accessory unit, MAP17. Expertise in – Clinical Nephrology; -Human Molecular Genetics; -Molecular Cell Biology.
