Dr. Ahmed Ameen Waheed

I am a Nephrologist, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, since 2013. I have felt the waves of change in health care over the past few years, and I have been adapting to these changes and taking a lead role in shaping our health care future. I’ll take a step back into my background: I grew up in Maldives Islands and left for Medical School in Karachi Pakistan. From there I moved to Chicago, Illinois to complete internal medicine residency at Michael Reese Hospital/University of Illinois at Chicago, where I was selected to be the Chief Medical Resident, which led to my role as the Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency program. After 4 years of practicing Internal Medicine, I joined the Nephrology Fellowship training at the University of Miami, where I served as Chief Administrative Fellow in the last year of my training. After fellowship training, I joined The Kidney and Hypertension Group of South Florida in 2013 and I am a full partner in the group. I feel fortunate to be teaching medical students and internal medicine residents from University of Miami at the Holy Cross Hospital campus, Fort Lauderdale. I am also an affiliate Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Miami. I have been serving in leadership roles at Holy Cross Hospital, including Medical Director of Acute Dialysis, Section Chief of Nephrology and currently serving as the Chief of Medicine at Holy Cross Hospital. Circling back to my opening statement, healthcare continues to change rapidly. Our small nephrology practice of 5 have merged with multiple other Nephrology practices in different parts of Florida (and beyond) to form the National Kidney Partners, which already comprises of nearly 50 Nephrology providers. I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience and stay humbled, caring for my beloved patients. I practice a patient centric model of kidney care focusing on individualized care. Preventive kidney care, delaying the progression of kidney failure and when needed, providing home based kidney replacement therapies, as a bridge to get to their kidney transplantation.
