Prof. Willem Bax

Dr. Willem Bax (1965) followed medical training (MD) at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. During his training he worked in pre-clinical research at the Dept. of Pharmacology, Erasmus University in Rotterdam where he obtained his PhD in 1995 with a thesis entitled: Pharmacology of the human isolated coronary artery; Effects of 5-HT, platelets, and peptides. (promotor: Prof. Dr. P.R. Saxena). He obtained further training in Internal Medicine at the Dept. of Internal Medicine and Nephrology of the University Hospital Utrecht. (Prof. Dr. D.W. Erkelens, Prof. Dr. H.A. Koomans). After that he started a career in Nephrology / Vascular Medicine in the Medical Centre Alkmaar (now: Northwest Clinics) where he was involved in start-up dialysis units in the city of Den Helder and on the island Texel, both north of Alkmaar. He is chairman of the Vascular Centre Alkmaar and chairman of the Advisory Board Cooperative Medical Specialists Alkmaar. Willem Bax has (co) authored 50+ papers in peer-reviewed medical journals in areas of pharmacology, cardiovascular medicine and kidney disease.
