Prof. P Vathsalyan

I am a young and energetic nephrologist with a strong interest in clinical nephrology, kidney disease prevention, quality dialysis and comprehensive kidney care. Beyond clinical practice, I am passionate about making Nephrology understandable and accessible to patients and the general public. Kidney disease is often silent until significant damage has occurred, and I believe that effective public education can play a major role in early detection and prevention. I also strive hard to remove myths regarding kidney disease and therapeutic nihilism surrounding hemodialysis and other modes of renal replacement therapy. I am also deeply interested in medical education and healthcare professional training. I enjoy teaching staff nurses, dialysis technicians and primary-care physicians, with the aim of improving recognition, initial management and timely referral of patients with kidney disease. My long-term vision is to contribute to the development of a patient-centred, education-driven Nephrology ecosystem—where patients understand their kidney health, healthcare professionals are better equipped to manage kidney disease, and evidence-based nephrology knowledge reaches the community in a simple and meaningful way. Through clinical practice, teaching and public education, I hope to make a meaningful difference in kidney health—one patient, one healthcare professional and one community at a time.
